The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) has taken the decision to recall Kinder Surprise Uovo Maxi Chocolate 100g from the United Arab Emirates market following the outbreak of salmonella in several European countries linked to the consumption of products with Kinder chocolate.

The ministry listed the two batches linked to the incident and their expiry dates in a circular sent to local food control authorities to ensure the rapid removal of the affected products from points of sale and their destruction or return to the country of origin. origin if necessary.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Ferrero Group announced that it had voluntarily taken the decision to withdraw certain batches of Kinder Surprise Maxi 100g products manufactured in Belgium and which expire on October 1, 2022, from the markets of the United Arab Emirates and Qatar as a precautionary measure.

The National Food Rapid Alert System revealed that out of the wide range of Kinder products produced in eight factories and sold in the United Arab Emirates, only two batches of Kinder Surprise Uovo Maxi Chocolate 100g from a factory in Belgium are concerned.

However, the ministry will apply stricter control measures on other products from Ferrero, the maker of Kinder, which are marketed in the UAE.

The system is managed by MOCCAE in coordination with local food safety entities including the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) and the municipal authorities of Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.

Belgian food control authorities and Ferrero are currently investigating the incident to update the list of affected products and countries.

In the United Arab Emirates, relevant entities monitor food safety using effective control systems to identify damaged, adulterated and counterfeit foods that pose a risk to public health. The ministry advises community members to seek information from reputable sources and to contact local food control authorities in case they purchase the product in question.

Ferrero exports its products to more than 160 countries, and this incident is the first of its kind for the company.
