A new market that offers a unique shopping experience has opened in Abu Dhabi’s Mina Zayed district.

The fish market includes eight restaurants and 44 fish cleaning stations, as well as commercial spaces and services. In addition to a supermarket, there are 104 fresh fish stalls, eight dried fish stalls, four fruit and vegetable stalls and three commercial kiosks.

The Ministry of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) announced Monday the opening of the market in collaboration with Modon Properties, the developer behind the makeover.

The project follows the best international standards to develop community markets and provides the best services and facilities to store owners. The new market offers a unique shopping experience with a design incorporating themes associated with Abu Dhabi‘s fishing trade heritage and preserves the fish market’s history of over forty years.

Dr Salem Al Kaabi, Director General of Operational Affairs at the Ministry of Municipalities and Transport, said: “The new site reflects the heritage of Abu Dhabi’s fish trading and fishing industry, which is well known in the region. DMT envisions preserving cultural elements as an integral part of the emirate’s urban development strategy to achieve sustainable development.”

“The newly opened fish market will no doubt be an important attraction for residents and visitors to the emirate due to its design, in addition to contributing to the growth of businesses related to the fish market.”

Ahmed Al Sheikh Al Zaabi, Delivery Manager at Modon Properties, said, “Construction of the Mina Zayed redevelopment project is in full swing and the project is expected to be completed on schedule.

“A key part of Modon’s real estate strategy is to integrate advanced architectural techniques into all of its projects and align with Abu Dhabi’s sustainability goals. We will continue to deliver modern experiences designed to enhance the quality of lives of residents and visitors to Abu Dhabi and help reinforce its reputation as the best place to live, work and visit.”

The Mina Zayed redevelopment project includes the renovation of markets and commercial spaces. In addition to redeveloping the fishing port, the project includes the renovation of the fish market, the fruit and vegetable market, the meat market, the carpet market, the date market and the wholesale market.
