As schools shut down for half-term holidays and a peak period begins from October 14, Emirates is announcing myriad ways to ensure a smooth and fast travel experience for families, including new updates to the Emirates app and digital check-in options.
All passengers are advised to arrive at the airport up to 3 hours before their flight and take advantage of Emirates’ multiple smart technologies to ensure a smooth journey during peak travel time.
- Plan it all on the Emirates app
Passengers are invited to download the Emirates app on their mobile phone to have all the flight details at their fingertips. Users can now track their luggage, as well as book and modify flights, download a digital boarding pass for most destinations, check which meals will be served on board, book their chauffeur service and even pre-select and schedule movies to watch via the ice in-flight entertainment – so kids don’t waste time feeling comfortable and happy on board.
- Online or remote check-in in Ajman
All passengers can check in online 48 hours before their flight using the online check-in option on the company’s website. With just a few clicks, they can select a preferred seat and meal, and take advantage of any last-minute upgrade options. At the airport, it’s easy to drop off bags at dedicated baggage drop counters and download a digital boarding pass.
Those departing from Ajman can also enjoy 24-hour city check-in at Ajman Central Bus Station. Passengers can check in up to 4 hours before flight departure, present medical documents, check baggage and collect boarding passes, purchase a bus ticket for AED 20 and proceed directly to Terminal 3 from Emirates, with regular bus departures throughout the day from 4 am to 11.30 pm. Upon arrival at the airport, travelers can simply continue to their flight.
- Sort your bags in advance or check in from home
A great free option, especially for families traveling with children, is to drop off luggage the day before travel. Passengers departing from Dubai can check in early and drop off their bags at the airport 24 hours prior to departure or 12 hours prior to departure if traveling to the United States or Tel Aviv, then arrive at the airport and proceed directly to immigration.
To make travel fast and seamless, Emirates also offers a home check-in service in Dubai and Sharjah, powered by DUBZ. DUBZ agents carry out the check-in process at the customer’s home, hotel or office and take the luggage to the flight while customers are free to walk through the airport later. Book and pay for the service at least 24 hours before the flight, and passengers can check in at the airport up to six hours before the flight departs. When a person books a first class, the home check-in service is free.
- Self check-in kiosks at the airport
A quick and easy option once at the airport is the self-check-in kiosks. Travelers can follow the steps on the touchscreen kiosk and complete the check-in process or use the kiosk without touching using a mobile phone. It is possible to view the travel itinerary, choose a preferred seat and add Emirates Skywards numbers. If you have already checked in online, you also have the option of using the baggage drop area to check in your baggage.
- Be smart with biometrics
For first and business class customers departing from Dubai, the Dubai International Airport Smart Tunnel is a world first for passport control, where passengers simply walk through a tunnel and are cleared by the authorities of the immigration without human intervention or the need for a physical passport stamp. All it takes to register is a quick photo at registration to capture facial data. Travelers can check in, clear immigration, access the airport lounge in Concourse B and board flights at certain gates only by facial recognition or using their boarding pass.
Passengers can also register to use the Emirates Terminal 3 smart gates and quickly clear immigration each time they return to Dubai. If they are citizens or residents of the United Arab Emirates, passengers can use their passport, boarding pass or valid United Arab Emirates ID. The smart gates can also be used by GCC nationals or visa on arrival visitors with biometric passports.
