Harpreet Singh Bhatia, the captain of the Ranji Trophy team from Chhattisgarh, has been accused of securing a position in the Chief State Accountant’s General Audit Office by presenting false credentials, as confirmed the police on Thursday.

An official claimed that Vidhan Sabha Police filed a complaint against Bhatia, 30, from Balod district, for allegedly using a counterfeit mark sheet to land a job as an auditor/accountant at the department office Indian Audit Accounts. of the Principal Accountant General Audit.

According to the Deccan Herald, the official informed that the department had been looking for candidates from the cricket executive for the position of auditor/accountant in 2014. Bhatia was invited for field trials after a preliminary assessment of verified documents that he presented and was chosen from the probable list of candidates based on his performance during the trials.

Bhatia passed the tests but falsified documents

The official also informed that during the process, Bhatia submitted a B.Com degree from Bundelkhand University, Jhansi. When the department contacted the university authorities, it realized that no such degree had been issued to Bhatia. The calculation then led to a complaint being lodged with the Vidhan Sabha Police Station against the cricketer.

According to the official, a case has been filed under Sections 420 (cheating), 467 (false) and other relevant laws of the Indian Penal Code, and the matter is being investigated. Bhatia played U-19 World Cup for India while representing the country in 2010. Bhatia also represented Kolkata Knight Riders in 2010 in the Indian Premier League. He was then drafted by Pune Warriors in 2011 and also represented Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2017.

This year, Chhattisgarh’s Ranji team could not qualify for the knockout stage and were eliminated in the championship rounds. The Round of 16, which includes the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final, is set to start on June 6 with the final clash to be played from June 22-26.
