Besix signs an agreement to create a salmon farming facility in Abu Dhabi

Leading infrastructure group Besix has partnered with Tech Group, a UAE-based group that provides turnkey construction and engineering services, and Ocean Harvest, a new agribusiness focused on technology, to set up a salmon farming facility in Abu Dhabi.

In announcing the venture, Besix said it has entered into a strategic partnership with the two to design, build and operate a high-tech land-based salmon farm in the UAE capital.

The strategic partnership will focus on building Ocean Harvest’s engineering and construction management capabilities, as well as supporting the company in structuring project finance and government relations, he said. .

Ocean Harvest’s first project is carried out in collaboration with Billund Aquaculture A/S, partner and leading supplier of RAS technology, and SUEZ – Water Technologies & Solutions, world leader in water treatment.

Ocean Harvest designs, builds and operates Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) facilities that locate the production of Atlantic salmon and other salmonid fish species.

Leveraging advanced wastewater treatment technology, RAS technology enables the reuse of over 99.5% of process water. This nearly eliminates wastewater discharges and helps protect fragile ecological systems.

Alongside this partnership, Besix and Tech Group will join Ocean Harvest’s Board of Directors as investors and strategic partners.

Ocean Harvest quickly secured $1 million in pre-seed capital to fund its design and engineering activities from Besix, Tech Group and major angel investors, the company’s statement said.

The company is now focused on realizing its project development plans as a forerunner in the burgeoning controlled environment agricultural industry in the region.

After the successful completion of the first phase of Ocean Harvest’s inaugural facility, the company plans to expand operations to move expensive supplies by air from overseas, he added.

Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Municipality and Planning Department, said: “Tech Group is dedicated to continuously seeking innovative opportunities that support the sustainable development of the UAE. Food security is one of the highest priorities in the UAE national agenda, and we believe that our partnership with Ocean Harvest will generate real and tangible impact for our society.”

Peter Lembrechts, Head of Concessions and Assets at Besix, said: “With Ocean Harvest and Tech Group, we share a common vision of corporate environmental responsibility: they are at the heart of the solution for a virtuous and greener economy, in particular in the food industry.”

“As a strategic partner, we will provide key technical expertise in the areas of civil engineering and water treatment processes, as well as support for project structuring and financial advice,” he said. added.TradeArabia Press Service
